Part One is about the 10 massive Global Crises of our time: Burgeoning population, exploding urbanization, rampaging consumerism, run away technologies and ominous social tremors—what’s the point of describing all of these threatening phenomena? Quite simply this: Our civilization is in serious trouble. It is besieged by these gathering global crises that are entirely of our own making. If we are to defuse and overcome them and the catastrophes they portent, then we humans must radically change our attitudes and behavior and do so before it is too late.

Social challenges result from what we are doing to ourselves, and ecological challenges result from what we are doing to other Life, and the environment. In both cases we are the lead player. Topsoil depletion? Water resources disappearing? Pollution everywhere? Climate changing? Vanishing species? We are the culprits!

Humanity unleashed is an incredibly powerful force. Has it not made us lord over all other life, master of the planet and intruder into the workings of the Universe? However, the other nine crises are looming testimony that somehow we are also using this power badly and that we are inadvertently bringing horrific catastrophes upon ourselves and all other life. We are discovering to our dismay that the only realm over which we don’t have power is ourselves. Can we straighten ourselves out, or do we go down as the ultimate prodigal species in a monumental cosmic tragedy?

Part Two is about Evolution, the best hope we have to survive and to complete building our urban, technological, industrialized and global civilization Evolution can activate the human soul on a broad scale in response to massive social crises. What it has done to a few extraordinary humans for thousands of years it can now do to many humans, for a soul is potential in every human being. Sparks are individuals whose souls are activated and who generally live quietly beyond the mainstream—until now! Sparks are individuals only politely emulated by the rest of their fellow citizens—until now! Modern humans say dismissively that Sparks live in another world. How true this observation is! How incredibly significant it is coming to be!

Part Three is about these Sparks—you may be one of them and certainly you know some of them. Sparks are not here to replace humankind. They are here to fulfill it. Sparks are not here to destroy our civilization. They are here to save and complete it. Sparks are not here to impose themselves upon the rest of us. They are here to show us the way. Sparks are no longer here as an Evolution’s grand experiment. They are here to show us what Evolution can and will do with humankind. Sparks are not here to be tolerated. They are here to be emulated. As modern humanity is the same species as the earliest humans, so too are Sparks the same species as modern humans, but Sparks are humans evolved to successfully cope with the 21st century. Hopefully enough of them will come forth in time to save the day.
